ICEC families are given many opportunities to serve the community at the local and global levels. We believe that children learn the importance of out reach when they are involved in the process. Some of the opportunities that are available throughout the year are:
World Hunger Day Dinner: children plant lettuce seedlings and basil plants and learn about the growing process of plants. Children also learn about hunger in our world, specifically about how hunger affects kids just like them in our own community. After six weeks, the children harvest the lettuce and basil and use the harvest in the preparation of a school-wide spaghetti dinner. The dinner is attended by ICEC families and money is raised for local food banks. Canned and boxed food are donated to community food pantries.
Operation Christmas Child Packing Party and Dinner: Families are encouraged to shop together for toys, clothing and other items to be sent to children around the world. The children pack the boxes and include personalized drawings and notes along with the items they bring.
Family Fun Night: During this event centered on building community and fellowship among families of the ICEC, families are given the opportunity to give monetary donations and collections of needed supplies. The organizations chosen to benefit from this event provide education, assistance and relief to children and families.
